His Life & Career - Reginald Perrin - Rising Damp

Reggie Online: The Official Reginald Perrin web site

Differences between book and screen

Even with the best intentions, it is impossible to transfer the entire concept of a novel onto the screen. There are far too many plots, subplots, characters and dialogue. For the four television series of David Nobbs' Reginald Perrin novels, it was David himself who wrote the scripts. This page lists the major differences between the page and screen. It does not list every single minute difference, such as the colour of Reggie's phone in his office - that would be too niggling. The aim of this page is simply to give the readers of the books a reference point for the scenes they have read but do not remember seeing on TV, and for all those who have only ever seen the TV series, a chance to find out what happens to some of the characters in the original novels. Related Pages: David Nobbs Page
Note: Books two, three and four were written in tandem with the series, and consequently feature fewer differences than book one.
